War Trail
Phase One of the trail runs through Jasper, Beaufort, Colleton, and Hampton counties. The trail retraces the footsteps of Dr. Uzal Johnson and the time he spent here during the spring of 1780. The highlights include the sites of skirmishes at Ft. Balfour, Saltketcher’s Bridge, McPherson’s Plantation and the Battle of Coosawhatchie. The trailhead is located behind the Lowcountry Vistors Center.
